Overview
The Director, Business Development for Mercy Research administers, organizes, implements, and evaluates those research contract activities such as budget negotiations, coverage analysis development and modification, and assessment of financial viability for industry and funded investigator-initiated clinical trials at Mercy Research. Under the direction of the Mercy Research Director of Business Operations, this Director for Research Development Activities and Strategies works collaboratively and effectively with industry sponsor contacts. As well as other Mercy administrative and support personnel, physicians, and staff to enhance communication, share pertinent data, effectively execute the financial assessment and budget negotiation including research billing and coding operations, and improve processes across the Mercy Research enterprise.
Responsible for the training and supervision of business coordinators, within functional area of budget development, negotiation and coverage analysis preparation, including oversight and leadership of research business functions related to budget development across the Ministry.
Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in business or related health care field.
  • Experience:
    • Three years business and negotiation experience in a healthcare research setting.
    • Previous management/leadership experience is required.
  • Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
    • Strong organizational, motivational and collaborative modern management style;
    • Ability to convey concepts to subject matter experts and non-technical professionals;
    • Participates in strategic planning to grow business;
    • Possesses strong communication skills with an appreciation for interdepartmental communications and confidentiality;
    • Demonstrates contract and budget negotiation expertise in research or other healthcare area;
    • Possesses the ability to assess data and assist personnel in providing appropriate business acumen;
    • Exhibits high level of professionalism;
    • Strong level of knowledge related to regulatory requirements for healthcare research involving pharmaceutical and medical device technology for effective budget negotiation;
    • Experience managing clinical research within a regulated environment; Ability to mentor and train other staff;
    • Proven ability to influence;
    • Strong business acumen and judgment.
    • Ability to travel up to 10% of time.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s or higher degree in specialty field such as healthcare, research or business
  • Experience:
    • Diverse background in people and project management in a large healthcare setting;
    • Strategic knowledge and demonstration of research budget and Medicare coverage analyses creation and execution
  • Certifications: Specialty research certification such as CCRC/CCRP
